Roommate Drama free essay sample

As part of your housing application at most colleges, you have to fill out a roommate survey that contains the basic questions: Are you a smoker? Are you a drinker? Are you neat or are you messy? I checked the appropriate boxes and sat back in my chair with a very relaxed feeling. All signs of this survey pointed to the likelihood that I was going to get a roommate whose answers matched up with mine. Worrying about whether I would get a bad roommate or not was no longer on my to-do list before school started. Move in day came and I was so excited to meet my roommate. I had seen pictures of her on Facebook and we had been emailing back and forth about what we should each bring for our dorm room. We had a lot to plan, since we had our own kitchen and bathroom, however we did not have separate bedrooms so our beds were about ten feet away from each other. We will write a custom essay sample on Roommate Drama or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I have had my own room since I was born. Having never shared a room with any siblings before, I had no idea how sharing a room with another college girl would be. My roommate was very nice. We got along great and were a lot alike. But, that was only for the first couple months of school. After semester break ended, we came back in January to a nice cleaned room. We were excited to start our final semester of freshman year and ready for our new classes to start that following Monday. This is where problems arose. Turns out my roommate had made a ton of friends from across the state over break. Little did I know that all those â€Å"friends† she met, would soon be taking over my room and start spending nights at our place. I was locked out of my room many times, so I would have to sit outside the door in the hallway until she came and told me it was safe for me to come in, of course after the guy left our room. I would find empty beer cans thrown behind our dressers and have our room smelling like alcohol mixed with the after scent of puke on our carpet that was not cleaned. We had a different boy in our room every weekend. It even happe ned the weekend my parents came up to visit me. I set my alarm for 8:00 am that Saturday morning just to make sure the guy was awake and would leave the room. I tried talking to her and telling her how I felt about having different boys in here at nights and how it was somewhat uncomfortable, but that did nothing. It was like she did not even listen to me. The problems got so bad that I turned to my Resident Advisor. Unfortunately, my RA was a party hopper and didn’t really care too much about it. If I wanted this solved, I would have to learn how to give and take with my roommate and her â€Å"habits†. I often went to the library if I needed to study since there was too much going on in my room. On weekends, I would go visit my friends at a nearby college and have a great drama free weekend with them. The issues reoccurred throughout the rest of the school year. We did not even talk for the last two weeks of school, including move out day. I packed all my stuff, got it all cleaned out, and had my dad come and help me pack all my stuff into the car. I left with one look back at my side of the room, and without a word to my roommate sitting on the other side. As of today, I have not talked to her once since those couple weeks before school stopped. After semester break, my room was no longer considered â€Å"my room†. It was no longer a place I could do some nice and peaceful studying, or where I could have a good night sleep. We all want to have good roommate experiences so here are some tips on how you can solve your roommate issues if you have any: 1. Talk to each other about your daily routine the first day you move in so you know how each other like to live in their room. 2. If a problem arises, talk to your roommate about it. If you don’t talk about it, nothing will change. Confront her and tell her how you really feel about it and see if you both can come up with a fair and equal solution. 3. If talking to her doesn’t work, go talk to your RA. That is what they are there for. Tell her the problems you are having and why it is bothering you. 4. See if you can spend as little time in your room as possible when your roommate is there. If you are trying to study, go study with a friend in her dorm or at the library. If someone spends the weekend, go visit home or another family member. Better yet, see if one of your friends at a college near you would like a visitor for the weekend. That way you can still enjoy the weekend without having drama attached. 5. If none of these works, contact your housing director immediately. Tell them all the problems, steps you have tried to fix them and that you would like to move into either a different dorm or different building. You can also have your parents be contacted in case you need their permission. 6. Remember, there is always a way to fix the problems. You might have to put in a little effort, but there is always a way.

Avoid Gratuitous Capitalization

Avoid Gratuitous Capitalization Avoid Gratuitous Capitalization Avoid Gratuitous Capitalization By Mark Nichol As an editor, I devote much of my time and energy to helping a writer bring out the best in his or her prose, but a lot of effort also goes into minor but nagging errors unnecessary capitalization among them. Long after the Roman alphabet was developed, only one form existed: the capital form. Along the way, a parallel form, known as lowercase developed. (The term lowercase derives from the fact that stamps for printing letters using this style were kept in rows of cases located below those housing the uppercase, or capital, letters.) Now, capital letters are used in a limited number of functions: primarily, for the first letter of the first word in a sentence or of a proper noun, and for denoting acronyms and initialisms. Unfortunately, many amateur writers, and a number of professionals, clutter their writing with gratuitous capitalization because of a misunderstanding of or a disregard for orthographic conventions. For example, many people do not realize that when the name of an entity such as an organization is reduced to one word, that word is generally treated without initial capitalization, as in â€Å"the association† (not â€Å"the Association†) as shorthand for â€Å"the American Automobile Association.† One complication is something that can be blamed on institutional pride, as when a university’s literature describes how â€Å"the University’s student-life environment is very rich† or on corporate branding efforts, as in â€Å"the Company is here to serve your needs.† Such gratuitous capitalization is entrenched in traditional legal writing (for example, â€Å"the Plaintiff’s claim is upheld†), but both in that context and in general prose it is distracting. Whenever you’re tempted to capitalize a word, specific to your field of interest or endeavor, that is not a proper noun, check its treatment in the lay literature books, nonscholarly periodicals, newspapers, and websites. Often, you’ll find that the word is treated generically, and I hope that you’ll realize that unless the word is strictly a proper noun, there’s no justification for aggrandizing it with an initial capital letter. Speak Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Speak - Essay Example In addition, which is even more important, the speaker that keeps eye contact with everyone makes each participant of the audience feel like the speaker is talking to him personally (Davidhizar 1992). This definitely makes the speaker attractive for the audience. Speaker’s appearance also plays key role in oratory process. First of all, nobody wants to look at somebody who looks unkempt; secondly, such a person would make audience feel disrespected by the speaker. Thus, of course, while deciding which clothes to wear for our speech we should first of all consider their appropriateness and adapt the style to the audience’s preferences. Comfort is also a very important thing in public speaking, as a speaker needs to feel comfortable in order not to be constrained in his self-expression while speaking. It is significant for a speaker to look attractive for his audience that’s why his use of body should be efficient and clothing style must be

Individual assignment 1 Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Individual assignment 1 - Case Study Example According to Comfort Limited management board, they believed that the company needed to change its leadership as most of the problems that resulted into failure of the company stemmed from the poor leadership. In the company, under the leadership of the Stellan, it was evident that the company understood that there was a need for a refined strategy. There was however unmatched strategic approach with the leadership in place. Though Stallen had adverse information concerning strategies that would propel business into high levels, it was clear that there was discrepancy between the management skills and the strategic skills. It can be seen that there is some complain among the members of the management. Though it is clear that the company has adopted a new strategy of product rebranding, the company still has to create different sections in the company such as the quality assurance to persuade the employees that this would be successful strategy. At this point, the company needs to inv est its resources on the external factors such as intensive marketing and product promotion rather than creation of more expenses within to deal with the internal affairs. Without a good leadership, strategic changes of the company development would not be received well. In the case of Comfort Limited, it is evident that the employees are moving out of the company while complaining that they are not given opportunity to air their thoughts, and that the CEO is running the organization single handedly. When Stallen took over as the CEO, the study indicates that he constantly met the employees and assured them of the success of the business. Though in this case one would say that the CEO was an optimistic person, it would also be correct to remember that his optimism did not place reality aspect of the business into focus. While the employees were well aware that there was some

B. It illustrates that there is still a lot more to be done for animal rights since Vick was involved with the torture, abuse, and death of many dogs and was given less time in prison then some people involved with drugs receive. Plus, it shows that Vick was able to get his life back for the most part without too much difficulty. C. Discuss how animals are not really being protected by these laws as they are more about ensuring that humans behave in a certain civilized way. There needs to be more focus on the animals well being than the humans. A. Cases such as Michael Vick’s are important in that it shows how frequent abuse occurs and how widespread it is. It shows that animal abuse is not always perpetrated by the scuzzy lowlife with the beer belly who lives in poverty, but also by an affluent celebrity. B. Animals are beloved in America, but we still do not have enough legislation to protect these animals who many consider to be as important as a family member. If they are so important, why aren’t they receiving the rights and protection that they

Pros And Cons Of Electronic Patient Records Information Technology Essay

Pros And Cons Of Electronic Patient Records Information Technology Essay A1) In this case, the concept is mainly about storing or safeguarding the medical records of patients. A Patients when visits hospital to seek the doctor they are provided with paper-based medical prescription where in the medicines were written to cure allergies, diseases etc. Each time patient visits the doctor a new medical prescription is provided. Not only hospital managements maintain records of the visited patients but also maintain records in sheets. As there are millions of people in this world, it is difficult for the hospital management to maintain visitors record in their register. Also, it is difficult for patients to maintain their medical records. The medical records can be such as prescription, test reports, x-rays, etc. These medical records are very important by patients and doctors for future reference they need to maintain them and safeguard them. This has become a problem and required to be solved. One of the worlds best companies is Google it has come up with a very good and efficient solution to this problem. The solution given was Google Health, which means current medical record storage system. This Google Health system developed with different features helps users to maintain their medical records by entering their basic medical data. All the medical records of patients are maintained in the repository which is accessible to the doctors. The doctors go through these medical records and then post the relevant information and advice back to Google electronic. This information is also maintained in the repository for further use. All the informations are maintained in the Google electronic. This is because sometimes access to medical records is not possible due to power failure. The use of Google electronic is free-of-cost. This electronic system is provided with features like health profiles, medications, allergies, doctors visits, health advices by the doctors etc. Googles mission is to organise the worlds information and make it univer sally accessible and useful. 2. What are the problems with Americas current medical recordkeeping system? How would electronic medical records alleviate these problems? A2) The concept of maintaining medical records online is best use for patients and doctors. This system is developed for easy-to-use by patients and doctors, but there are some problems being faced by them. Patients can communicate with the doctors online by using this system. Only less percent, of Americans maintain their medical records online. In case of emergency, this problem leads to death. If the patient is unable to reach the doctors online they can switch to another doctor who is online. The source of this problem is absence of online medical records. When the power is off, the connection to the internet is lost and also access to the local data storage system is failed. In such case, access to medical records is also failed, by which the patients and doctors also loose their access. To overcome this problem, the Healthcare Industry has developed electronic medical record where all the records have been stored to use by the users. Medical records are easily accessible after converting to electronic. This electronic medical record alleviates these problems. It increases the likelihood of privacy invasions and makes the medical information accessible to the advertisers. By the use of internet, they can get complete information about electronic medical record system. The use of this electronic medical record system is easy and is quickly accessible by the patients and doctors in less time. It is possible to access medical records even when there is no power. 3. What management, organization, and technology factors are most critical to the creation and development of electronic medical records? A3) Management Factors: It is important to know how records are being handled by the servers. Also, privacy and security is also important. Google helps many of its users belonging to different categories to refer electronic records for their references handle their cases well. Google curtails the information collected and collides with many of the private legal advisors at the time of these conflicts. It launches many of the easy to use formats for the reference. The companies which manage these records must also be able to manage their employees with the sufficient paying. Organization Factors: Google and other companies who handle such types of records must organize the databases that stores records entered by different users permanently and also to retrieve them whenever necessary. These organizers must be able to update the records or changes are made by the clients in an efficient manner. They must make the users feel confident enough regarding the data entry. The users can trust this website without feeling tensed regarding their insurances and other kind of fear. As the data that is entered by the users is store in the repository. Technology Factors: The technologies that are being used by the companies must make the websites store and retrieve the data records to and from the database in an efficient manner. Technology wise are companies are brilliant must concentration on different kinds of transactions done by the user. Technology being the important task in making the choice, the developers must be best at their part and create the best of the all types regarding the medical records. They must also go through all the pros and cons. 4. What are the pros and cons of electronic patient records? Do you think the concerns over digitizing our medical records are valid? Why or why not? A4) Pros of Electronic Patient Records: Storing patients medical records in the world wide concerned database makes many of the reference to view these records and find solution to their problems. And many doctors of different areas around the globe can be aware of the new technologies being used by many of the senior specialists. As these records are stored electronically, it is easy to use them anywhere on any type of computer, but the only need is the internet connection. Cons of Electronic Patient Records: To any kind of data whether stored electronically or is paper based the main thing to concentrate is the privacy and security. These are lacking by the companies who are managing the records. And whenever, there is power cut there is no access to records. Then in such case, records cannot be updated or viewed. Due to lack of privacy measures many of the users feel insecure to store their records in these databases. And they also feel that these companies may use their private information as an advertisement purpose. As these, records are stored in the database which is globally related to all of the users some users have faced problems. The users who are registered with this site have faced many problems as their medical records are misused by many of the unauthorized users. Few more users feel that some of the sensitive information of their may affect their jobs and also their insurance policies. For any information to store, security is the most important factor as it safeguards the information. Digitizing Our Medical Records : Digitizing is defined as storing the medical records electronically, in electronic gadgets. Once the records are stored electronically they can be viewed anywhere from the world and it can be possible unless there is an internet connection. The digitized records are valid, only if the security of the records is at highest range and is being checked at times by the organizers. If the security and privacy measures are not up to the mark then there will be only few authorized users who cooperate with the company. 5. Should people entrust Google with their electronic medical records? Why or why not? A5) Google is one of the worlds largest companies. It is one of the best available search engines, which is widely being used by many users all over the world. Its mission is to organise the worlds information and make it universally accessible and useful. For many users, it may be difficult to agree with its mission, but some do agree with it. Some users may not feel good to give their personal information which they mean to be private, when it is asked by the Google but some feel free to give them. People should entrust Google with its electronic medical records. This is why because, with Google electronic the patients can get treatment from doctors located in different states and countries. The patients can reach the doctors and get the treatment done in their emergency and get their long lives. Google electronic has got features which make the users work easy. The users are provided with the facility, where they are required to enter their medical record information. This informa tion is safe as it is stored in the repository. The people should entrust this concept because, their information is secured by the best security services. No information is accessible to any unauthorised users. And also, this system is so best in its way, that the patients get the required advices from the doctors as and when they request. People should not entrust Google with their electronic medical records, if the medical record information entered by the users is being misused. In such case, people are more worried about their personal information as they are accessible via electronics health records, may lead in losing their health insurances and job opportunities. It is also fear for people that, if they switch to electronic health record could even be more vulnerable to security breaches and privacy violations. Some people think that unless an electronic system has sufficient privacy controls from outside, it is less likely to become universally used. If system security cont rols are used, it is important that the consumers must be aware of these controls and feel confident of using the system without fear of their information being accessed by the unauthorised user or parties. 6. If you were in charge of designing an electronic medical recordkeeping system, what are some features you would include? What are features you would avoid? A6) If I am given a chance for designing an electronic medical recording keeping system, the features that I would like to include are, easy to use by the patients and doctors, quick access to the medical records, reliable to use, fast access to the medical records, facility for the users to maintain their online health profiles and keep updating them, different medical treatment for different diseases and issues, online direct contact with the doctor, a query text where the users can clarify their quires and issues, providing the users with username and password for logging in to access the medical records, providing the users with facility to make their payments, providing them with list of total number of doctors and available number of doctors, the available timings of the doctors, a text space to request for the required doctor to consult, 24 hours access to the medical records, providing blogs where the doctors can write their advices, provide list of different types of disease s and allergies where the users can choose the type and get the required information about it, the most important feature that is necessary for keeping the medical records safe is the security. In the feature security, I would like to secure the information that is being passed between the healthcares providers, by avoiding access to the information by unauthorised users. I would like to avoid features like limited access to the medical records by the users, limited time to seek the doctors, unauthorised access to the medical records, avoid access failure to the medical records.

Paranoid Schizophrenia: They’re Out To Get Me Essay example -- Mental

Introduction Paranoid Schizophrenia is a serious psychotic disorder that impairs a person’s perception of reality, causing the mind to lose contact with the real world. This disorder greatly affects one’s ability to negotiate the activities of everyday life, such as school, work, or social situations. In 1898, Emil Kraepelin was to the first to provide information regarding schizophrenia naming it â€Å"dementia praecox†, and defining it as a psychosis with an early onset of intellectual deterioration (Schiffman & Walker, 1998). Ten years later, a Swiss psychiatrist, Eugen Bluler renamed the disorder using a combination of the Greek words â€Å"skhizein† and â€Å"phren† meaning split mind (Barlow & Durand, 2011). He believed the unusual behaviors were a split from the basic functions of personality and reality. Today, there are misconceptions about the term schizophrenia in which society confuses a split mind with a split personality, or multiple persona lities. The broad definition of schizophrenia continues to be researched and narrowed into subtypes with specific presenting characteristics. Paranoid schizophrenia is one of the five major sub-types listed in the Fourth Edition of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders; Text-Revised (DSM-IV-TR) with the list continuing to expand as the criteria identifies specific related symptoms or behaviors (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). Although this disorder only afflicts 1% of the total population of the United States, this amounts to over three million people living with the disorder. Diagnosis Diagnosis of this syndrome typically occurs in late adolescence through early adulthood with the onset of behaviors marking deterioration in the ability to perform normal... ...000). Food Preservation Essay

Men have preserved their foods from ancient times in order to keep the results of harvesting for winter months, for resale, for storage, and for transporting from sea to inland, overseas, or cross-country. To do so, they generally used nature’s methods, which are drying, parching and fermenting. Parching is the most natural method, but for many thousands of years, others have also been used. Direct fermentation of liquids, usually by the introduction of yeast, has not only preserved liquids but also enhanced their quality, the same of course applying to salting. Smoking has preserved, and sometimes improved both fish and meat. Hickory wood is generally used for the fires, and natural juices are contained by a slight coating of wood creosote. It was not until recently that the causes of rottenness were understood, these being the reactions of bacteria, molds, yeasts and micro-organisms. Some fermentation and molds are, of course, necessary in the production of food and drink; molds, for example, being used in cheese-making. But the real ‘breakthrough’ in preservation against the causes of rottenness came, when it was learnt how to deal with the micro-organisms present in all foods and drinks, and which react chemically over a period to produce unpalatable or poisonous food or drink. There are three basic methods. Firstly, food may be preserved by cooling or freezing, to a very low temperature when long-term preservation is required. This was originally done by packing in a mixture of salt and ice; today, cold storage is big business and refrigeration is a highly-developed science. ‘Dehydration’ may be bracketed with this method, as the principle involved is the same, namely to suspend the operation of bacteria which requires normal temperatures for chemical reaction. This is why reconstituted eggs cannot against dehydrated, and melted ice-cream refrozen. The second method of destruction is by heat-processes, which destroy all the bacteria present in food and drink. This process is used before canning foods in hermetically-sealed containers, great care being taken not to allow the foods or drink s to become re-infested after cooling and before canning. The third method is to preserve by the addition of chemicals, which control or destroy bacteria. This is merely a follow-up of the old systems of salting, smoking and candling. Eventually, the method of ‘cold sterilization’ is expected to supersede most of the others; this amounts to exposing the food-stuffs to ionizing radiation. Today more than mere food-preservation is sought by the consumer, and for this reason, processes are becoming more and more sophisticated. Quality, economy and convenience are sought by modern man — especially modern woman — convenience is important, the ‘ready-cooked’ meal is popular, while, in Western, or ‘Westernized’ communities, goods do not sell easily if they lack color, a good appearance, natural flavor, the right texture, and are free from defects.

Abortion Worst Medical Invention essays

Abortion Worst Medical Invention essays Abortion is the deliberate termination of pregnancy by removal of the fetus from the womb. Under the topic of abortion there are two clear sides - pro or for. Personally I am 100% pro, because in my eyes abortion is the same as murder. Murder is defined as, The taking of someone or somethings life. So if you dont see it like that then how would you define abortion. Currently abortion is performed by any one of four standard procedures, according to the period of gestation. The procedure that I will explain is called, suction, or vacuum aspiration. This method is used in the first trimester (up to 12 weeks). In this procedure, which normally takes five to ten minutes, on an outpatient basis, the cervix (neck of the uterus) is opened gradually with a series of dilators. The uterine contents are withdrawn by means of a small flexible tube called a cannula, which is connected to a vacuum pump. To ensure that no fragments of tissue remain, a spoon-tipped metal instrument called a curette may then be used to scrape the uterine lining. This procedure was introduced in China in 1958. This doesnt sound too wonderful. Most people dont know it but there can be some long term effects to having an abortion. Some of them are mild but others are more serious. They may include death to the mother, preterm delivery or low birth weight for second pregnancies. Some agencies have even stated that abortion can cause other health related problems like cancer for the mother. It has been proven that abortion is the fifth leading cause of maternal deaths in the United States of America even thou abortion related deaths are not officially reported as such. To let you know I will state some of the complications you can have after an abortion in more detail. After having an abortion a woman could die from a variety of complications associated with the abortion. A few of the ...

Assisted Suicide Essays

Assisted Suicide Essays Assisted Suicide Paper Assisted Suicide Paper Assisted suicide   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   It is uncommon today to hear people campaign for or against assisted suicide on televisions and in streets.   Those supporting this act argue that a person, who is terminally ill and in severe pain, may decide that death is a better option.   They also propose that these people have their freedom of choice and should be left to determine their destiny and therefore it is important that the society respects their wish.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Assisted suicide can be defined as the fight for the right to die. Patients are administered drugs by their physicians to end their own lives.   Assisted suicide is related to Euthanasia which comes from the Geek language; eu which means ‘good’ and Thanatos which means ‘death’. It is the termination of person’s life with request from the person who wishes to commit suicide.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Euthanasia can be classified as under passive, active, physician assisted suicide and the involuntary euthanasia.   Active euthanasia can be described as causing death to a person by use of direct actions as requested by them. Physician assisted suicide on the other hand refers   to the practice of supplying information to the patient from the physician.   For instance, a physician may offer an overdose prescription to patients.   The killing of a person without their consent refers to involuntary euthanasia.   This is commonly done to patients in a vegetative state whose recovery is not possible (Robert, 1997). The whole idea of this seems to be that we are giving the doctors the right to kill. If someone wants to die, should they be forced to stay alive I experienced this with my mother-in law. She was very ill for many years but was really afraid of dying; people would always ask if she wanted to die. Now, the question always comes up, Should People be forced to stay alive I believe the answer is No; they shouldnt. By keeping a patient alive who doesnt want to live anymore can be viewed as a cruel and inhumane act. Looking at it from a religion point, most of them tell you to live life as you wish. So with Euthanasia philosophy is most likely, life centered on you and about life after death. The main purpose for pro-Euthanasia I would think is the case of Freedom of Choice. If a person really wants their life ended that badly, then they can choose to do so, but the case is actually making legal the right for a doctor to do so first, because in their constitutional mind, they d o whatever it takes to save a patients life. But even after all the facts and all the standards for making Euthanasia a concept of this nation, there is still the argument of why Euthanasia has to be stopped. Euthanasia is the intentional killing by act or non-act of a self-depended human being for his or her benefit and by their request. The key word in that statement is, Benefit. Is this really a beneficial act and does it help our society I donâ„ ¢t believe that it does help society at all. Looking at what I have written so far, sure, there are some reasons for either side to have the upper hand. But the fact of the matter is that the practice of euthanasia is one of the worst things that can happen in our nation. PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE 5 Many things affect this situation and show how horrible of a situation it really is, with things such as government, religion, politics, morals and common sense. For starters, the public has a huge role and say as to how this Euthanasia situation is. A substantial size of todays population feels that it is our democratic right, as individuals, to choose whether it is right or not to terminate someones life. This is not seen as murder by this portion of the population. But the stronger side says that it is Gods call to determine when one of his creationsâ„ ¢ time is over, and that we as human beings are in no position to play God. By having doctors perform the act, they override the divine function and interfere with Godsâ„ ¢ plan. With these religious concerns out there, a lot of controversy can start on the subject. Speaking on the topic of religion and Euthanasia, this subject also gets involved with Religious politics. According to a 2004 Gallup Poll, 53% of Americans think that Euthanasia is morally acceptable, while 41% of society feels that it is wrong. Questioning some of those who attend religious services nearly every week, only 33% regarded Euthanasia acceptable, which makes it a 20% difference. Evaluating these statistics from Gallup, its easy to see that religion plays a huge position in the deciding factors of what Euthanasia is in society. Since religion itself is concerned with issues of meaning and morality, life and death, its not surprising that, for many people, religious beliefs are the main basis for their opinions. PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE 6 There are still many different kinds of issues which make the Euthanasia debate keep stirring up our society. Euthanasia comes from the Greek word for easy death and is formally called mercy killing. There are four different types of Euthanasia: Active, Passive, Voluntary, and Positive. Voluntary involves a request by the dying person or their legal guardian. Passive Euthanasia is doing nothing to prevent death or letting someone die, also known as DNR or do not resuscitate. Active Euthanasia involves giving a lethal dose of toxins to cause death, and Positive involves taking deliberate action to cause death. As seen, there are many different ways of going about the situation of killing someone through Euthanasia. Seeing these methods, we know that there is some consent to whether the patient can choose to die and such, but its all about whether the doctor should be allowed to perform the act. In this case, itâ„ ¢s known as assisted suicide or simply helping someone d ie. All in all, its highly unethical for a doctor to participate in such an activity and help someone die when they should by all means be trying to save their life. The most popular opinion of Euthanasia is that this is an emergency exit for people, and if they have nowhere to turn in their time of need, this is their choice. Euthanasia is not going to be for just the terminally ill. PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE 7 There are two problems with this: the true definition of terminal and the changes that have already taken place to extend Euthanasia to those who are not completely terminal. Murad Jack Kevorkian, who spoke at the 1992 National Press Club, stated that terminal illness was, any disease that curtails life for even a day Looking at this statement, I think itâ„ ¢s very hard to break down the pain versus time of life to one daysâ„ ¢ pain (Smith 2010). Some laws define the word terminal as relatively short time, and there is also death expected in six months or less, which is also called hospice. With the situation of diagnosing time of life, it seems impossible to tell when someone really is leaving the Earth, such as, if someones supposed to go in a year or so, usually, they last for more like a couple years or more. The resilience of people these days beats a lot more odds than they ever have. Nowadays, Euthanasia activists have dropped terminal condition to other names such as hopelessly ill, incurably ill, or meaningless life (Smith, 2010). An article in the journal, Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, described assisted suicide guidelines for those with a hopeless condition. Hopeless condition was defined to include severe physical or psychological pain, terminal illness, or deterioration, physical or mental debilitation or a quality of life that is no longer acceptable to that individual. That means just about anybody who has a suicidal impulse (David, 1995). If we use that fact, saying that anybody with a suicidal impulse is worth giving up is unjust to the individual. We should be helping the people that are going through the hard times and not push them to go and take their own life. PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE 8 That is what they are basically told to do when euthanasia is given as an option. Most of the people that are even considering taking their life arent even all the way sain in the head as it is because of how much theyve already been going through. If the definition of terminal has changed this much, then just think how much its going to keep changing. It wouldnt be surprising if terminal illness was considered eventually viewed as something as simple as a bad case of pneumonia. As the definition of sickness keeps getting looser and looser, the more and more doctors are planning on making profits on this money scandal using Euthanasia (David, 1995). Wesley J. Smith, senior fellow at the Discovery Institute, states, physician-assisted suicide, if it became widespread, could become a profit-enhancing tool for big HMOs.drugs used in assisted suicide cost only about $40, but that it could take $40,000 to treat a patient properly so that they dont want the choice of assisted sui cide. This shown is easily a means of cost containment. In the United States, thousands of people have no medical insurance; studies have shown that the poor and minorities generally are not given access to available pain control, and managed-care facilities are offering physicians cash bonuses if they dont provide care for patients (David, 1995). I really donâ„ ¢t think the public will all too happy with this. It would be like refusing someone care after they are hurt. With greater and greater emphasis being placed on managed care, many doctors are at financial risk when they provide treatment for their patients. PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE 9 Legalized euthanasia raises many issues for the medical community. For example if a seriously ill or disabled person chooses to die rather than receive long-term care this will definitely impact the financial security and future of many medical professionals. When they are no longer able to provide long term care to these patients who normally would live at a medical facility for years. By taking that option away by offering euthanasia, you impact the financial aspect of the medical fields by possibly millions of dollars. If euthanasia does get legalized, and choosing death is ok and the doctor is allowed to perform this, then doctors are going to try and convince everyone not do take this route. Since this is going benefit them and have them profit off of it, then of course theyâ„ ¢re going to do anything they can to argue why they shouldnt be living the life they are living and will probably even stretch a lot of the truth about the current condition they would be in. As Leon Kass, M.D., Ph.D. said, The prohibition against killing patients stands as the first promise of self-restraint sworn to in the Hippocratic Oath, as medicines primary taboo: I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody if asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect As much as Euthanasia supporters will say, Euthanasia will not only be voluntary to the public (David, 1995). For this fact, psychological and emotional pressures can stand in the way and if theyre saying that its basically the same situation by choosing life or death, then the patient would feel guilt and want death (David, 1995). In the state of mind that one of these people will be in can determine wether or not they go though with it. PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE 10 References: 1. Koukl, G. (1998). Religion and euthanasia. Budgetary control" URGENT MUST SEE A REAL TOPIC IN DETAILS Thesis

Budgetary control" URGENT MUST SEE A REAL TOPIC IN DETAILS SECTION - Thesis Example Budgetary control is part of overall organisation control and is concerned primarily with the control of performance (Abdel, 2011). The use of budgetary control in performance management has of late earned greater importance especially as an integrative control mechanism for the organisation. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the role of budgetary control in performance management, organisational control and as an integrative control mechanism within an organization. According to Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), London, budgetary control refers to establishment of budgets for the continuous comparison of actual with the budgeted information for achieving the goals and recording the deviation and conducting a revision of budgets under the fresh circumstances (Ray, 2009). Planning, Coordination, Communication and Control are the primary objectives of budgetary control. Planning involves preparing a table of action for a business over a specified period of time. Coordination refers to synchronization or bringing together of different activities of a company or an organization to ensure cooperation of all the concerned towards the common goal. Communication as an objective of budgetary control refers to informing the budget to the concerned about what is expected of them to accomplish (Abdel, 2011). The budget which is approved contains all the plans of the management regarding the future course of action which are communicated to the concerned departments. The departments follow the approved budget and are expected to adhere to it for the specified period. Control refers to process, necessary to bring the performance according to the original plan. Control is possible with pre-determined standards laid down in the budget. To enable budgetary control a continuous comparison of real performance with that of budget is maintained to find out the

Bonds, which tie people to the places they live Essay

Bonds, which tie people to the places they live - Essay Example It is often in the midst of an environment that is foreign to them that people tend to have a feeling of nostalgia for their previous lives, which was their comfort zone, and actually regret the cutting of those bonds, which tied them to their previous lives. It can be said that severing old ties or bonds is a necessary part of an attempt to gain one’s freedom from cultures, which have only a one-dimensional view of the world, and learning about other cultures. In this way, people end up being more cosmopolitan and by being cosmopolitan; it encourages them to have a more focused view of the world, free of the prejudices, which often make people very narrow-minded. The question that one should ask himself is whether they made the right choice in severing their old bonds or whether they should have kept these ties. One of the most important bonds that human beings have is the bond to family. This is the bond that one does not choose to have, and is instead born into and it is th e closest bond an individual can have. Family is very important thing to the human being and it is the first society that he experiences. Not only is it the first socializing factor in one’s life, but it is also the most influential considering the fact that the parents often raise their children to be responsible and successful people in society and to do this, they instill in them the virtues which are considered desirable by the rest of the society. The bonds, which tie one to one’s family are often very strong, even though one does not choose which families they belong to, these bonds are permanent. The only way through which one can break the family bonds is perhaps through the death of all of one’s family, and this is a very rare thing. However, there are times when even the bonds of family can be broken. A good example of this is in Adichie’s Headstrong Historian where Anikwenwa rejects everything concerning his mother once he is converted to Chris tianity. Not only does the bond, which tied him to his mother, get broken, but also Anikwenwa ends up losing the virtues, which his mother had taught him since childhood, and instead, he adopts those from another culture. This severance of bonds is permanent, and mother and son do not look eye to eye on matters again until the former’s death (Adiche 212). In addition, another bond, which is also very hard to break, is the bond of origins. A person’s origins are very important to him and many people often display a sense of pride in it. When people immigrate to a new country, for example, they often take with them fond memories of their countries of origin and tend to compare their progress in their new home to that of their old one. Many carry the customs and practices of their old country to their new one and they continue practicing them due to their belief that the culture in which they were born is better than the one they have come to live within. Not only do they continue to practice this culture, but they also have great pride in it. However, there is often a great bitterness among the first generation immigrants to a new culture when their children and grandchildren adopt the culture of their adopted country instead of continuing with the culture of the old country. The younger generation
